I"ve been told to blog more.

As always, I slacked off with my blogging.

Bumping into our wonderfully assertive, yet surprisingly gentle giant PTR, I have been told to blog more.

I shall try, for great justice.

Or just us.

So anyway, ED has been remarkably fun, with suturing galore!
Glass, metal, chain saw, circular saw, fence post... If it has a vague point, someone will cut themselves on it!

The traumas have been interesting:
Any guesses on what happened here? (click for larger image)

I guess its sort of expected that I get to treat acute things, but some of the things I"ve seen so far are shockingly silly.

Headache? Sure, there have been nice ones with red flags (such as the man with a giant AVM) but there are those that present purely as "headache for 2 hours, panadol has helped, no neuro, currently nil pain".

Abdo pain? Serious ones from MVA and such or alternatively "abdo pain since 4am, ate ?dodgy chicken last night".

There have also been some good classical signs seen with the yellow (not asian or scared) lady with a liver that fills half her abdomen, scarred, pulsatile, solid with ascites.
Or the man yesterday with a 16cm spleen.

Some also quite unclassical signs:
Diagnosis anyone? (click for larger image)

Fun times.

Resolution Generator

As stolen from the blog of a certain champion blogger, the New Year's Resolution Generator is quite an amusing way to burn 27 or so seconds.

It has worked almost freakishly well for me, with the following resolutions:
1. Start or actually update my blog - Very relevant in my case...
2. Read a Dr. Seuss book - Ah, my kind of resolution...
3. See the good in people - Yeah, sure, I"ll try that...
4. Stand tall - All 5'10" of me?
5. Think before I speak - Definitely relevant.
6. Grow basil - Oh I do like my basil...
7. Strike up a conversation with a stranger - Do patient histories count?
8. Wake up earlier - Yes, I really should.
9. Be a rockstar - I think that's been done in our course...
10. Fly to the moon - Wait, what?

Definitely good fun. I continued to click another 35 or so times to see what else came up, but there appears to be quite a few vague "be a better person" ones, such as "give" and "love" and "be a better person".

Overall, I think I"ll just add:
11. Pass 3rd year.

That should do it.

Happy New Year!

20!

Hooray! My 20th blog post!

...

Obviously I"m dead bored and needed an excuse to post something.

I just had a vaguely interesting lecture on diarrhoea which would have been much more interesting had it been a week or so ago, when we actually started to learn about it...

Unfortunately, these lecture theatres seem to have their thermostats tuned for penguins or people with slightly more blubber than I"ve built up for myself.
I need to bring a jumper next time, despite the fact that it is 35 degrees outside...

Currently in a lecture about colorectal cancer screening. Its actually quite interesting and the lecturer is doing a pretty good job keeping my mind from wandering... Too much... Of course, here I am typing a blog post...

A shout out to my fellow classmate who decided he needed to make a dramatic entrance but perhaps thought otherwise when entering through the door behind the lecturer and proceeding to walk across the stage with a slightly embarrassed smile on his face. Go PTR! See? I am paying attention to this lecture...

I do believe it is time to continue listening to this lecture...
