Its funny how memory works.
I forget where I was going with that line.
Anyway, its been weeks since my last post. Because of that, I"ve decided to ramble for a bit. Bear with me (or not, none of this would be particularly interesting...)
So since my last post, quite a lot has happened.
The New Year for the world ticked over at the usual time.
The New Year for Asians (because we always need our own reason to eat more dumplings...) ticked over at the not quite so usual and often very random time.
5 weeks are down for the first term of hopefully my final year in university.
Hopefully.
In the last 5 weeks, I have learnt that the TA pub gets very cold, Adelaide gets very hot, and that eating a large pack of chips for breakfast may make you feel ill.
With the last 3 years, we were often encouraged to go to the wards, to practice our clinical skills and learn what we could. Of course, the main educational point was the lectures, PBLs and tutorials that we got, so ward work was always a little bit of a bonus thing, whenever we could find the time.
The funny thing about fourth year is that all our learning is meant to really be from the wards. Despite the whole purpose of fourth year being for us to actually be on the ward doing things in hospital, learning on the ward itself, I"ve found that I"m busier with things outside the ward.
This is probably made worse by the fact that the school hasn"t given us very much guidance or assistance at all with necessary things.
Of course, that could come down to trying to make us more independent and that sort of thing...
But anyway, exciting year 2011, if only I can get everything organised...

Resolution Generator
As stolen from the blog of a certain champion blogger, the New Year's Resolution Generator is quite an amusing way to burn 27 or so seconds.
It has worked almost freakishly well for me, with the following resolutions:
1. Start or actually update my blog - Very relevant in my case...
2. Read a Dr. Seuss book - Ah, my kind of resolution...
3. See the good in people - Yeah, sure, I"ll try that...
4. Stand tall - All 5'10" of me?
5. Think before I speak - Definitely relevant.
6. Grow basil - Oh I do like my basil...
7. Strike up a conversation with a stranger - Do patient histories count?
8. Wake up earlier - Yes, I really should.
9. Be a rockstar - I think that's been done in our course...
10. Fly to the moon - Wait, what?
Definitely good fun. I continued to click another 35 or so times to see what else came up, but there appears to be quite a few vague "be a better person" ones, such as "give" and "love" and "be a better person".
Overall, I think I"ll just add:
11. Pass 3rd year.
That should do it.
Happy New Year!

Deja vu!
So its the New Year.
Again.
Except this time we have the moon to blame.
Silly Lunar New Year... (or Chinese New Year)
Its the year of the Ox (thus, or a nice pun, Happy "Niu" Year) and this happens to be my year... Which is kind of sad because it makes me old. But also the 3rd multiple of 8, three eights, 888, somehow rhyming with "rich" in mandarin/cantonese and thus lucky and good.
Riiiight.

A Whole New... Year.
So 2009 is upon us.
Hooray.
I"m not sure what the excitement about a "New Year" is, considering its exactly the same as the last few. The only way you even notice is when people start correcting your correspondence by crossing out the 2008 and writing 2009, or saying "Hey, I noticed you wrote 2008! Hahaha I do that all the time too!"
Though I do hope everyone had fun on New Years Eve. I certainly did! In bed and asleep by 10pm, it was a brilliant night :)
As of current, I am lazing about doing not much.
One thing I have started doing though is a new exercise regime.
Did I mention I was a Fatty McFatcakes? I forget.
Anyway, I"m massive, but the jogging I"ve been doing (I believe it was 5.3637km, twice a day) has had a negative effect on my knees, so I"ve decided to switch it up a bit.
Monday: Bike riding (Twice a day)
Tuesday: Interval workout - 2 minutes fast, 5 minutes jog/walk to recover. Rinse and repeat. Alternatively, if there was an oval, I"d do 1 lap fast, 1 lap slow. (Twice a day)
Wednesday: Normal jog (5.3637km, twice a day!)
Thursday: Tempo run - 10 minutes at a light pace, followed by 15 minutes at a heavy pace, followed by 10 minutes at a light pace. (Twice a day!)
Friday: Rest/walk - Sleep in the morning, walk in the evening
Saturday: My normal distance except at a faster pace (Twice a day)
Sunday: Walking in the morning for 5.3637km, Jog in the evening for 5.3637km
So yeah. We"ll see how that goes :)
Oh, also I got diagnosed with sleep apnoea and will have to use a CPAP machine. Hooray for me.
Hooray.
